PEDAGOGICAL WORKSPACE · NO CHILD DATA

Plan an Autumn week

Choose an age range and day, then add activities. The focus is the environment, adult practice and the group’s opportunities to participate.

Day you are planning

2–3 YEARS

Pedagogical ideas

MOVEMENT · MUSICIndoors or outdoors · 15 min

Wind dance with light fabrics

Pedagogical purpose
Connect movement, rhythm, cause and effect, and body-related language.
Adult role
Sing slowly, alternate high and low movements, and follow movements initiated by the children.
Materials
Light fabrics in autumn colours and a simple song.
Participation and access
The activity can be done sitting, lying or standing; use gestures and repeated words.
Question for the team
Did adults follow children’s initiatives, or direct every movement?
MOTOR · NATUREOutdoors · 25–40 min

Path of puddles and surfaces

Pedagogical purpose
Support balance, coordination and confidence through gradual challenges.
Adult role
Offer easier and more challenging options, stay nearby and describe strategies without rushing.
Materials
Shallow puddles or tubs, low boards, leaves, boots and suitable clothing.
Participation and access
Provide a dry parallel route; allow children to watch first; offer physical support only when needed.
Question for the team
Did the path offer choice, achievable challenge and safety for the group?

Adult role
Invite children to find shades, ask open questions and welcome every language used in the group.
Materials
Colour cards, a basket and an optional magnifying glass.
Participation and access
Use visual cards and object references; children may point, show, speak or use AAC.
Question for the team

PLAY · RELATIONSHIPSOutdoors · 35–60 min

Pedagogical purpose
Support pretend play, cooperation, turn-taking, sorting and storytelling.
Adult role

Materials
Pots, spoons, containers, water, soil, leaves and sticks.
Participation and access
Create varied roles and cards for actions such as mix, serve, more, finished and help.
Question for the team
Did materials and adult participation extend the play or interrupt its flow?

Rhythms with leaves and seeds

Pedagogical purpose

Adult role
Begin with short patterns, invite each child to suggest a sound and combine the ideas into a group sequence.
Materials
Dry leaves, sealed seed shakers and small pieces of wood.
Participation and access
Offer hearing protection, quiet instruments and the option to participate through movement.
Question for the team
Did children’s ideas have a real place in the composition?
STORY · IMAGINATIONSmall group · 25 min

The journey of a leaf

Pedagogical purpose
Develop sequence, imagination, vocabulary and listening to different perspectives.
Adult role
Start with a leaf character and let the group decide where it goes and what it meets.
Materials
Leaves, blue fabric, stones, figures or concrete story objects.
Participation and access
Use choice pictures; accept contributions through speech, gesture, sound, drawing or objects.
Question for the team
Did the story belong to the group, or was it mostly directed by the adult?

REVIEW PRACTICE

Team reflection

After the activities, review the practice — without assessing individual children.

  1. 01Did the environment invite different ways to participate?
  2. 02Did adult practice extend or control the play?
  3. 03Was there time for choice, repetition and initiative?
  4. 04Did pace, materials and group size suit the group?
  5. 05What will we keep, adjust or explore next week?
